  • Analytical Scientist 1`/2 - LCMS Title
  • Boston, MA City
  • Chemistry Domain
  • Description

The mission of the Analytical Scientist position is to help establish and lead Allonnia’s analytical platform. This scientist will help develop and run EPA Methods 537, 537.1 and draft Method 1633 for PFAS analysis as well as play a key role in helping Allonnia bring transformative, biological solutions to environmental challenges. Other analytical experience of interest includes HPLC, TOC, and XRF.

  • Responsibilities
    • Evaluation of data quality. Your expertise in differentiating signal from noise using knowledge of limits of detection and limits of quantification for various methods will be critical to our success.
    • Data organization. You will supply data to several researchers working on diverse projects. Efficient data organization is vital.
    • Experimental planning. This role will be important for designing experiments to answer key questions during technical development of solutions to challenging environmental problems, and will routinely collaborate with other scientists and engineers.
    • Development of new analytical methods and improvement of existing methods. Our analytical core is being developed as we speak, and we need input from you to choose the best method for given tasks and to improve the throughput, precision, and accuracy of the methods we are running.
    • Experience with liquid and gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The ability to troubleshoot these methods for increasing the separation of compounds of interest (for chromatography) and identification of secondary metabolites (using mass spectrometry) is required for success in this position.
    • Good communication skills. Researchers need to be able to understand issues with data and how to resolve these issues (if possible), and so frequent input and collaboration with your colleagues is essential.
  • Requirements
    • 3-8 years of experience with an M.S. or 0-5 years of experience with a Ph.D. in the field of chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering or a similar discipline
    • Expertise in LCMS for PFAS analysis, including proficiency in running Methods 537 or 1633, and a solid understanding of HPLC, GC, and FTIR techniques.
    • Ability to troubleshoot these methods for enhanced separation of target compounds during chromatography and identification of secondary metabolites using mass spectrometry.
    • Proven experience with handling a wide range of matrices (either by publication or work experience)
    • Strong data processing and validation skills. Very good data organization skills. You will supply data to several researchers working on diverse projects, and efficient data organization is vital.
    • Stellar work ethic and a passion for benchwork
    • Outside of the box thinker and creative problem solving
    • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
    • Effective and proactive communication
